How Ask Steve Began

ChatGPT exploded onto the scene while I was working at Google - overseeing all the internal HR technology for their 180,000+ employees.

We had our own internal LLMs, and I wanted to integrate them into our HR tech product suite so that our employees could do their jobs better and faster.

"In the flow of work", so they wouldn't need to copy and paste back and forth with a separate chatbot every.single.time they wanted to do something.

They would get the help right when and where they needed it. Seamlessly integrated into their existing tools.

But I couldn't. For two main reasons:

• We were using systems from Salesforce, Workday and other vendors, and I couldn't touch that code.
• I didn't have the engineers.

So nothing happened. Until I left Google.

(Technically Google left me. Potāto, Potáto :)
